Tournament Rules & Regulations
Where it is shown in the Tournament Rules and Regulations as “ATBSO’ this will represent the ATBSO. Tas. (Inc)
1 Rules These rules shall apply to the Code of Conduct and control of all ATBSO
tournaments and related matters.
2 Name The Body shall be known as the ATBSO, and shall incorporate all Tournaments
and events bowled in Tasmania on behalf of the ATBSO.
3 Purpose a) The purpose of the ATBSO, is to annually bring together bowlers from the age
of 45 years and over to compete on a State Basis in a various range of Events.
b) To foster, develop and advance a spirit of good sportsmanship and fellowship,
and to promote and maintain good relationships among bowlers in Tasmania
and send Representatives to the “Australian Seniors Week”, and to cater to
their mutual interests in relation to tenpin bowling.
4 Control of Tournaments a) A person nominated by the Tasmanian members at their AGM, will be
the Tournament Director for all events run in Tasmania and shall be in control
of these events.
b) Any matters arising during the Tasmanian Tournaments, not covered in these
rules, will be covered by the Tournament Director, and the State Board
of Directors, executive committee, whose decision will be final.
c ) The Tournament Director is only answerable to the ATBSO, Executive
Committee.
d) The Executive committee consists of the President, two Vice Presidents, the
Secretary and the Treasurer.
5 ATBSO, Tas Interstate Teams Challenge
Team Members (Full ATBSO Tas. Members). Plus a Team Manager.
Each Competitor.
a) Must be 45 years of age or more, at the date of commencement
“Australian Seniors Challenge Week” and be a financial member of
the ATBSO.
b) Must also be a financial member of the TBA National Body. Proof may be
required.
c) Must be capable of conducting himself / herself in such a manner so as not to
reflect discredit on the ATBSO,
d) Must be a resident in the state or area of bowling, for that period of time,
which enables them to participate in the state team roll-off, from
the commencement of those roll-offs until the end of that years “Interstate
Challenge”.
e) Must have qualified for team membership, in accordance with the conditions
set down, by the ATBSO Tas. Board of Directors. This will include bowling in
the ATBSO Tas. (Inc), State Championships, with an “All Events” entry in the
year of their participation, plus two other ATBSO Tas. Tournaments in
that year.
f) An exemption can be obtained from rule (e) in certain circumstances only, by
applying to the Board of Directors in writing, before the date that the
exemption is required, if and where possible. This will only relate to the
ATBSO Tas (Inc), State Championships. Reasons must be genuine and will
include family health problems etc. The direction of the Board will be final
The bowler must still be able to bowl in the Eliminations plus two other ATBSO
Tas. (Inc) Tournaments.
*** The Executive Committee, have the authority to change this rule re entry
requirements, if any team does not require a “Roll-off” or is short a player
for the “Seniors Week Challenge Teams.”
This will also relate to the number of games to be bowled in the State Team
Eliminations.
If number of games reduced then the entry cost will be reduced by that
number of games.
If any team extras are required then preference will be given to ATBSO
Members that have bowled in the Eliminations and Championships or a National
draft player must be used.
g) The playing strength of any ATBSO men’s and women’s teams shall be six
players
h) All players selected in their respected team, will attend practices and
meetings as required by their Managers or they will be replaced in the team
by the next available reserve. Any related decisions will be made by the
Executive Committee.
6 ATBSO, Tas Restricted Teams Challenge
Team Members (Full ATBSO Members). Plus a Team Manager.
a) All Rules for the restricted Challenge Team will be the same as for the “State
Teams Challenge” except the Tournament will be bowled using a handicap
of 90% of 200.
7 Masters Events a) The Tasmanian body of the ATBSO, will conduct a Tournament within the last two weeks of May each year to select two Scratch Masters Champions, (a male and a female) and two Restricted Masters Champions (one male and one female) to represent Tasmania at the “National Seniors Week.”
b) The type of Tournament to decide these representatives, will be decided by the State Tournament Director and the State Board of Directors and this will be determined by the number of entries each year.
c) The Restricted Division will be based on a contestants highest ATBSO, Tas Tournament average as at the date of closing of the entries, in the year of the event and will be a maximum average of 169 for the women’s division, and a maximum average of 179, for the men’s division. Then when representing Tasmania in the National Masters Event, they will then use their ATBSO Tournament average in the National event as recorded on 15th June in that year.
8 ATBSO Tas. Championships.
a) The ATBSO, will conduct Championships in February or March each year.
The Championship events will consist of -
Teams: Men, Women or Mixed. Three Players
Doubles: Men, Women or Mixed. Two players
Singles: Men and Women’s Division.
b) ATBSO, Tournament Averages will be used where possible, and if not available, then the highest current league average will be used. Proof of this average will be required. Any exemptions will be decided by the Tournament Director.
Handicaps will be based on 90% of 210.
The ATBSO Tas. Tournament average will be an ongoing average gained in all ATBSO Tas. Tournaments, including the State Championships, State Eliminations, State Masters, and any other ATBSO Tas. Tournament, plus the National Championships and the National teams challenges. Date period will be from 15th June to 15th June on the following year.
c) There will also be four (4) “All Events Champions” (Men’s and Women’s Restricted & Scratch division) will be decided on the results of a contestants first “Singles, Doubles and Teams event.” Mixed players events scores will also be used in those totals.
d) Cost of each event and prizes, will be determined by Tasmanian Board of Directors each year.
e) Entries will be accepted on the day, if lanes permit.
f) An “All Events Entry” will be required to participate in a State Representative Team or to represent Tasmania as a Masters Champion. As well as this requirement, State Team bowlers will need to bowl two extra Tournaments in the Tasmanian ATBSO year.
9 General Rules a) The Tournament Committee, which is made up of the State Tournament Director and the ATBSO. Tas. Executive committee, will handle and adjudicate on any rule or problem not covered in this set of “Tournament Rules and Regulations”.
b) A dress code will be used in all events. For men, trousers and shirts with collars must be worn. No tracksuits, jeans or shorts will be allowed. For women, skirts, tailored slacks, culottes or ¾ pants and shirts with collars will be worn and as with the men’s event, no tracksuits, jeans or shorts will be accepted.
c) All ATBSO Tas. TBA Rules and Regulations will apply.
d) Right of way during all events.
i A bowler will yield right of way to the bowler on the right hand side,
excepting when the bowler on the left hand side is on the approach
preparing to bowl.
ii A bowler will not yield to any more than one lane either side of
himself / herself.
iii Tardy Players Players who have in the opinion of the Tournament
Director, deliberately held up the flow of play to gain an advantage or
otherwise, will be penalised their score for that frame bowled.
